Amsterdam metro tickets

How to move around Amsterdam? The Amsterdam Metro offers five routes, and with Amsterdam metro tickets, you can secure yourself a route and a certain amount of time with whichever kind of tickets you choose.

This means you’ll have to ensure which specific kind of ticket you need to buy before you buy it.

  • The basic Amsterdam metro ticket is €3.40 per person, per 1 hour of travel.
  • Going up to 24 hours, the cost goes up to €8.50.
  • For 48 hours, the price is €13.50.
  • For 72 hours, the price is €20.00.
For 96 hours, the price is €25.50.
  • For 120 hours, the price is €29.50.
  • For 144 hours, the price is €34.00.
  • For 168 hours, the price is €37.00.

If you have children aged 0 to 4, the 1-hour ticket is free for them. And for kids between 4 to 11-years-old, the 24-hour ticket gets discounted to €4.00.

Of course, these are just basic tickets. You have other choices if you’re looking for simpler answers and more expansive options.

You can opt for the Amsterdam city pass, which offers unlimited access to public transport, as well as other benefits to this Amsterdam card, which include free access to certain museums and attractions. You can choose the duration of your card (for how long it will be valid), for which the cost profile looks like:

  • €60 for 24 Hours/1 day
  • €85 for 2 days
  • €100 for 3 days
  • €115 for 4 days
  • €125 for 5 days

Similarly, you can choose the OV-chipkaart, a prepaid card you can fill out with credit beforehand and use to pay for any metro line and station, the cost of which depends on how much you travel using it.

The minimum credit (after you’ve bought it for the one-time price of €7.50) to fill out is €20.00, but it’s perfect if you want to travel without worrying about limiting yourself to the time-restricted Amsterdam tickets. It will stay valid for 5 years and you can find the expiration date on the card.
